Heroic Deeds PDF Complete (pretty much)! DriveThruRPG distribution imminent!
6 months ago – Mon, Nov 24, 2025 at 01:12:02 PM

Hello Adventurers!

I have been working away on the book and have now got to a stage where I am happy to share the pdf. The book is complete except 2 Adventure Locations. So I will now be sending out a copy of v0.9.5 to all backers who wanted one.

Tonight. Oh yes. Here we go.

Here's the contents page - with hyperlinks to all the pages of the pdf.

I will use the email address you have on the Backerkit Pledge Manager. So you've probably got an hour or so to correct it if it's wrong.

I wanted to get this out on DriveThruRPG before the weekend, as I'll be at Dragonmeet playing the game. Felt a miss to not have a QR code on the table that people can scan to get it!

I've given it a good read through and corrected lots of errors, but no doubt some of you will spot the odd mistake here or there. I'll add all that in with the additional Adventure Locations over the next few weeks. Until we finally have Heroic Deeds v1.

Following this pdf release/update I'll be working on the stickers and character folios for the All-In tier peeps. I'll then do physical fulfilment in the new year.

I've got a test print coming this week (hopefully also in time for Dragonmeet) and getting my hands on this book will allow me to get fulfilment costings for UK and EU peeps. The US and Rest of World (where appropriate) will be handled by Blackbox Fulfilment in the US. I anticipate this will allow me to keep the price down.

It's all finally happening, and I am super happy with the book. It's crazy to think I've nearly finished it...

...which is really only the start. I'll be trying to get the book out to some reviewers and YouTubers afterwards (if you know any tap them up for me!). Plus I'll be releasing monthly content for the game on my Patreon, with a goal to build the content for the next Kickstarter ahead of launch.

Please feel free to come and share any feedback on the Discord or Facebook page.

Thanks for all your support, it's all about to pay off.

More soon,

Pete

November Progress Update
7 months ago – Sat, Nov 08, 2025 at 12:48:21 AM

Hello Adventurers!

It's been a few weeks since my last update, apologies for that gap. It's been a busy month with half term and the kids, lots going on at my work, and... lots going on with Heroic Deeds. I am getting very close to a finished pdf now and I'm super excited to get this out to you. Hopefully all your good patience is about to pay off.

Bestiary

I've completed the main Bestiary now and am very pleased with the layout and the 59 creatures that we have in there. They are split by theme and there are going to be random encounter tables based on target destination Danger Rating. The creatures breaks down like this:

  • 10 Marauders
  • 10 Dark Verdance beasts
  • 10 Monsters
  • 9 Undead
  • 8 Elementals
  • 4 Dragons
  • 8 Retainers
Dark Verdance creatures are twisted forms of natural creatures!

Artefacts

Next up I've nearly completed the Artefacts section and have got some extra special magic items that can feature as an emergent narrative element as well as a really cool boost for a hero. Artefacts provide substantial base benefits, but also have Deeds associated them that allow the player to advance the power of the item as they use it more. I've got two more of these to write, so pretty much done.

One such artefact is the Stalwart Mail, a suit of armour crafted by a god.

Adventure Locations & Other Bits

As of now I've got about 2 locations to finish, which is about 12 pages of content but does involve drawing a couple of maps. However, this shouldn't take me too long to complete. I also want to go back and tidy a couple of bits (I've already given Archetype Deeds a trim from a layout perspective) and add in a couple of ideas that I've wandered across since writing the Journeys section. This last bit might be a later errata though, we'll see.

Dragonmeet

On Saturday 29th of November (3 weeks from writing this) I am headed to Dragonmeet to run two sessions (morning and afternoon) of Heroic Deeds with all the rules. I intend to complete as much as I can of the above in the next two weeks and then get the pdf up on DriveThruRPG, share it with all backers, and then get a test print completed (so I can have a book at the table at Dragonmeet). At this stage there may be an adventure location missing, but 99% of the book will be done and you can all tear it apart! lol.

Bits & Bobs

Dragonmeet will then be followed by an edit session, creation of the character folios and stickers, and then I'll move to print. The additional adventure location funded by stretch goals will be released later as separate digital products and shared with you all.

Fulfilment

I've refreshed my relationship with Blackbox Fulfilment in the US, and I think I'll be able to get the US backers books printed and shipped within the USA. This should keep fulfilment costs way down. All UK, and EU books will be shipped from here in the UK. So we're getting very close a costing - just need to see how much the book weighs!

Nearly Done

So thank you all for your patience, and we're getting close to done. The game should be with you in the next few weeks in pdf form, and I anticipate that physical books will be out early in the new year, but I'll see about getting them shipped inside 2025 if possible (this depends on edits/errata etc).

I want to make sure it's as right as I can make it, rather than rushing it at this last step. But I know you're all likely keen to get your hands on it.

Following that we're looking at setting up a Garblag Mega Game on the Gartopia Discord, but more details on that later - don't want it to get in the way of completion.

Thank you for your support on this adventure!

Pete

September Progress Update
8 months ago – Mon, Sep 29, 2025 at 05:39:20 AM

Hello there!

Summer has gone and the kids are back to school for the last few weeks. It's taken me a while to settle back into the flow of things, but progress continues (and did while they were off as well).

There has been loads of progress! I am very close to having a full pdf now, and it's looking like the book will be just a bit over 200 pages.

I've been spending a lot of time developing the Bestiary layout.

So what's left to do?

  • 2 Adventure Locations
  • 8ish Artefacts
  • 20ish Monsters
  • Contents/Index/Appendix type things
  • 1st Edit pass

After that I'll have the first draft of the pdf, which I'll likely share with you all so you can see it, and no doubt give a load of feedback.

There is the option for me to tidy things up a bit and send over what I have at the moment. It would provide you with everything you need to play (there's 2 adventure locations and 30 monsters completed). If enough people comment below I can look into doing that so people can at least get their hands on the game.

Either way, after that I'll be laying out the character folios and reviewing the physical fulfilment. Wow, I'm getting there.

I can't deny I'll be really pleased and very relieved to finish the book, it's been going on a while now and you have all had great patience. It's been nice to have these interesting sections to end with as they are some of the more fun bits to design.

Anyway, just thought I'd give you an update as it's been a bit quiet.

More soon,

Pete

July Progress Update 2
10 months ago – Mon, Jul 28, 2025 at 02:45:25 AM

Hello Adventurers!

Today it's a quick update. Work continues as usual and we're getting there.

The GM section is now complete 1st pass. So this is great. I'm now eye balls deep in the Magic Items section which is split into two parts. The first is generic magic items which you generate like you would in AD&D 2e (one of my inspirations for the game). This consists of tables of magic item types and qualities that you roll on (or pick from if you want).

more lovely artwork from Dean Spencer and the begining of the Magic Items section

The second part is Artefacts, which are specific magic items that have been named in Rumours or Adventure Locations. These have Deeds associated with them and become more powerful as you use them. They have specific actions that they can be used for and utilise a hero's Vitality as a resource to unlock powerful effects.

After this I'm on to finishing the Adventure Locations, writing up all the Monsters and then it's pretty much done. By which I mean I then need to go over it all with a fine tooth comb. But, I'm likely to share a pdf version at that stage with backers and patrons so that they can have a look and tell me of any sections that don't make sense.

So we're rattling along. I'm on holiday for a couple of weeks after this week and I intend to get some more work done on the book over that period.

More soon,

Pete

July Progress Update 1
11 months ago – Mon, Jul 07, 2025 at 05:36:07 AM

Hail Adventurer!

It's been a few weeks since my last update and the book continues to move along. So I thought I'd give you a little update and a sneak peek at the Adventure Location layout!

Progress & Plans

I've pretty much finished the GM section, with just the Emergent Campaign element to write a page of advice on. I've completed (first pass) pretty much everything else except the Magic Items and Monsters sections. Magic Items needs a little work and I've had a rejig of the Monster layout (which you'll see below). Now I'm in a good place to get those all transferred into the book. A lot of this is just a bit more time. Work has been a bit full on and I've been prepping for two games of Daggerheart (don't tell anyone I'm prepping once and playing twice). But its all on course and inevitable now. I'm also thinking about the smaller A5 Archetype books for the All In tier and what extras I'll add into those as character prompts.

So it's all in a good place.

Adventure Locations

I've settled on a 6 page layout for Adventure Locations. This includes a map for the GM to use as reference when drawing the dungeon out for the party, two pages of room description (including any relevant plot, hazard, obstacle, or treasure elements), a page of unique or flavoured monsters, and the two page GM handout which summarises everything. This is intentionally lightweight. I want to give enough information for the GM to play the location, but not so much they are beholden to every little detail.

I drew the maps, but other art here is by Dean Spencer.

Here we have the intro, map and first page of details on the Adventure Location.
Second page of details and the location specific monsters present.

Now I have the layout I can get the other Adventure Locations sorted out and in the book.

So I'm very confident I'll get this all finished in the next few months. Hopefully you'll enjoy all this when it arrives on your table!

Pete
